The Team
The partners at Thurlow, Dr Dawie Jansen and Dr Justus Dirks lead the team into an ever evolving vision, to be the best and deliver the best.
The team include trained and certified nurses who will care for you beyond your expectations and an administration team who will look after your needs outside of the surgery.

The History of Thurlow
Thurlow was established in 2002, set among the rural countryside and beautiful surroundings of Horton Heath, Hampshire. Born as a one surgery practice, Thurlow has increased to 4 surgeries over a short period. Growing with the world of dentistry has been an exciting and passionate journey. Dr Justus Dirks : Principal Dentist
Justus is a partner at Thurlow and has been with the practice since 2003. He qualified at the University of Pretoria, South Africa and achieved BChD, MSc(Phys), BSc(Hons), BSc. Further post graduate training in implant and cosmetic treatments were achieved in the UK, South Africa, Clinica Malo (Portugal) and the California Centre for Advanced Dental Studies.
Justus enjoys giving people their smile back with the help of implant reconstruction and cosmetic treatments. His aim is to help people achieve a more desirable smile. He can also give an opinion on your overall facial aesthetics and explain how facial line smoothing and fillers can compliment dentistry revitalising your appearance, enhancing your natural look.

Dr Dawie Jansen : Principal Dentist
Dawie graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 1999. He is a partner at Thurlow and has been with the practice since 2004.
After attending numerous advanced courses, he developed a passion for aesthetic dentistry and a growing interest in all aspects of dental implantology.
Dawie has undertaken a Diploma in Implant Dentistry through the Royal College of Surgeons to refine his surgical skills.
He is also a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentists and he continues to pursue excellence in the field of aesthetic dentistry with the California Centre for Advanced Dental Studies.
Dawie is devoted to providing excellent comprehensive care to his patients, constantly striving to produce results that will meet and exceed your expectations.

Dr Johann Ackermann : Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeon
Johann visits Thurlow to provide oral surgery for patients. These treatments include complex extractions, bone grafting, implant related procedures, minor oral surgery and temporomandibular joint disorders.
Johann qualified in South Africa in 1977 and attained a Masters Degree in Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgery in 1988.
Johann has joined our team to make all your dental treatments more accessible and your journey as comfortable as possible.
Your dentist will refer you to Johann should you require treatment.
Dr Graham Gardner : Orthodontist
Graham is registered as a Specialist Orthodontist with the British General Dental Council, he is a member of the Specialist Practitioner Group of the British Orthodontic Society and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists.
Graham qualified as a general dentist from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and then worked for 5 years as a general dentist while continuing postgraduate studies. This was followed by three years specialist training in Orthodontics at University of Witwatersrand Dental Hospital, after which he attained the Master of Dentistry in Orthodontics.
Since then Graham has been involved exclusively in orthodontic practice both in South Africa and in the UK.
Align Technology, Inc has recognised his considerable experience in using the Invisalign technique by awarding Graham the Platinum Practitioner Status.
Graham’s philosophy is to provide treatment that balances the science and art elements of leading-edge orthodontics, resulting in better dental function and good facial aesthetics. He uses techniques that are both patient and practitioner friendly and he is a strong believer in harnessing technological advances to improve treatment, administration and communication.
Gilly Kitch : Orthodontic Manager
Gilly has been at Thurlow since 2002 when the practice opened.
Gilly is a qualified nurse, who manages our orthodontic branch, working together with specialist orthodontist, Graham Gardner. Gilly trained at the Royal London hospital in 1979 and has gained years of experience any many areas of dentistry. Gilly has also qualified as a radiography specialist at the Keele University.
Gilly is able to help you when you come in to guide you through your treatment and help to answer any questions you have regarding your treatment.
Bianca Brooks : Dental Therapist
Bianca joined the Thurlow team in 2007 having qualified as a Dental Therapist at The Portsmouth School of Dentistry.
Bianca offers scale and polish, hygienist appointments as well as some minor dentistry procedures. Bianca offers a fresh breath clinic which includes consultation, a fresh breath pack, a scale and polish and advice. She also helps patients to combat gum disease with periodontal treatment plans and regular consultation.

Laura Bunyan : Dental Hygienist
Laura qualified at Cardiff University as a Dental Hygienist and many patients have commented on her friendly and welcoming manner.
Laura offers scale and polish, hygienist appointments. Laura offers a fresh breath clinic which includes consultation, a fresh breath pack, a scale and polish and advice. She also helps patients to combat gum disease with periodontal treatment plans and regular consultation.

Heleena Winteridge : Clinic Manager
Heleena has been at Thurlow since 2005. As Clinic Manager she is responsible for the overall clinical operation of the practice.
Heleena is a qualified dental nurse, who assists Dr Justus Dirks in surgery and has many years of experience within the dental practice.
Heleena is your support in the surgery. Quite often there is a lot of information to take on board, Heleena will help answer any questions or raise any concerns to the dentist. She will aim to make your treatment as comfortable as possible, ensuring you feel relaxed, and confident that when you leave you have had all the information you need and the best treatment and care.
Janet Hopper : Dental Care Professional
Janet has been with Thurlow from the day it opened in 2002. She is a valuable member of the team with a wealth of experience. As our Radiography Specialist with a qualification from the Keele University, and Health and Safety Officer, Janet ensures a safe environment is maintained for patients and staff.
Janet is a qualified dental nurse with many years of dental experience and knowledge. Janet assists Dr Justus Dirks in surgery. Quite often there is a lot of information to take on board, Janet will help answer any questions or raise any concerns to the dentist. She will aim to make your treatment as comfortable as possible, ensuring you feel relaxed, and confident that when you leave you have had all the information you need and the best treatment and care.
Hazel Torgout : Patient Co-ordinator
Hazel has been at Thurlow since 2005.
Hazel welcomes patients to the practice and looks after you when you arrive, and when you leave the practice. She’s available to book appointments with you and is always happy to help should you have a query. If she can’t answer your query she will certainly find the answer for you and help as best she can.
